Łukowica [wukɔˈvit͡sa] is a village in Limanowa County, Lesser Poland Voivodeship, in southern Poland. It is the seat of the gmina (administrative district) called Gmina Łukowica. It lies approximately 11 kilometres (7 mi) south-east of Limanowa and 63 km (39 mi) south-east of the regional capital Kraków. The village has a population of 2,220. There are places about which you know straight away they are special. Łukowica is one of them. It’s a beautiful and picturesque gmina of Limanowa administrative unit in Małopolska. Our school was brought into existence together with the educational reform in 1999. The leading organ is Urząd Gminy in Łukowica with Mrs wójt inż. Czesława Rzadkosz. The headmaster is mgr Leszek Lis. Over 300 pupils learning in the Gimnazjum make 13 divisions. Apart from the students from Łukowica, pupils from five neighbouring villages (Swidnik, Owieczka, Jadamwola, Jastrzębie, Młyńczyska, Roztoka) attend our school. All the pupils take active part in the cultural life of the gmina, promoting the tourist attractions of the region through partcipation in Rajd im. Michała Sędziwoja that is held every year. Extra activities run in our school:
1. Drama lessons- run by a Polish teacher Mrs Ewa Migdał on Fridays from 13.10 to 14.00. All students participated in the classes have an opportunity to learn how to act or to declaim poems or prose. What’s more, they perform plays for the local audience ( students, parent, authorities). At the moment they are preparing a play entitled ‘Balladyna’ by Juliusz Słowacki. 2. Physics circle- run by a Physics teacher Mr Paweł Korec on Mondays from 13.10 to 14.00. On the classes they talk about different subjects connected with physics and astronomy, especially they practice for the physics competitions. They use different sources of information. 3. IT circle- taught by a computer studies teacher Mr Jan Tokarz on Wednesdays from 13.10 to 14.00. On the classes students make their presentations, create their own websites and get to know new educational programs. 4. Biology circle- run by a biology teacher Mrs Maria Pietrzak. All the members have an opportunity to find out more about our climate, out planet or ecology. They watch different tissues under the microscope. They also take part in both biology and ecology competitions. 5. Chemistry circle- run by a Chemistry teacher Mrs Małgorzata Tokarczyk on Tuesdays from 14.10 to 14.55. Students interested in chemistry take part in the circle. They solve chemistry problems, do tasks, practice writing reactions. Students take part in competitions connected with the subject. Most members aged 16 concentrate on preparations to the final science exam. 6. Geography circle- run by a Geography teacher Mrs Elżbieta Stępka on Mondays from 13.15 to 14.00. Pupils broaden their geography knowledge and skills and take part in competitions. There have been many laureates of the contests not only on the local level but also in the Malopolska voivodeship’s level. 7. Maths circles- there are 3 different Maths circles in our school run by following teachers: Mrs Danuta Klimczak, Mrs Alina Pryma and Mrs Joanna Wilczyńska. On the classes ‘young mathematicians’ do difficult tasks, participate in an international maths competition ‘Kangaroo’ and make preparations for the final science exam. In the lessons weak students can also take part and practice their maths skills or ask questions if they don’t understand a topic. 8. Sports activities- there are different kinds of sport activities. The most popular are: • Basketball- run by a PE teacher Mr Waldemar Kurczab on Saturdays from 10 to 12.00. Students who take part in classes learn rules and practice playing basketball in an advanced level. • Volleyball- run by a PE teacher Ms Anna Młynarczyk on Wednesdays from 14.00 to 15.30. On the lessons students work out, practice for various sport competitions, learn rivalry and teamwork and , of course, play volleyball. • Karate 9. English circle- run by an English teacher Ms Agnieszka Pietrzak on Wednesdays from 13.10- 14.00. On the classes pupils (mostly they are 16) practice their skills listening, reading, writing and speaking English. They also broaden their knowledge about English speaking countries especially the UK and the USA . All these activities take place in a language lab. 10. Journalism workshops- these activities are to work on and edit a school newspaper. This year all numbers are dedicated to the Comenius project MLCCA. The workshops are run by Ms Agnieszka Pietrzak; there are 2 student- editors: Agnieszka Kowalczyk and Klaudia Król.
